Luke Metcalf is a Senior Care Specialist for Care Champions, LLC. Luke founded Care Champions with the desire to serve people going through the journey of looking for senior care. Luke’s mission for Care Champions is to be trusted advisors and champions for senior care. Every day we work to fulfill this mission because our clients and families deserve it. Additionally, our vision is to refer families to trusted referral partners, provide peace of mind for our clients and families, and treat every client and family like our own.
Throughout his career, Luke has had the opportunity to work in the senior care industry in several different capacities, including assisted living, home healthcare, estate planning, in-home care, and hospice. Over the years, he has met with many families, and it was in these conversations, the dream of starting Care Champions was formed. Here’s one of the families, told by Luke, that inspired him.
“Over the last 17 years working in the senior care industry and meeting with many families, I’ve found that for many, finding senior care can have its challenges. There is one story, in particular, that really moved me and inspired me to start this business.
Several years ago, after meeting with a man looking for care for his wife, I discovered he had unknowingly already signed his wife up with another company that provided the same service as me, and our meeting was now no longer necessary. He was embarrassed and apologized profusely. I could tell his level of frustration with himself and the situation was almost at a breaking point. I took some time to reassure him that it was really no problem at all and that this happens because he’s dealing with a lot of things all at once. It’s hard to keep it all straight.
As we continued to talk, he explained that he was a retired police officer and believed his hardest days were behind him. He said, “In all my years as a police officer, I never experienced anything on the worst day on the force as difficult as I’ve faced this last year with my wife…”. He added, “I didn’t plan for this. No one warned me or even said this was something I needed to plan or prepare for. I’m completely unprepared. I have so many important decisions to make and I don’t know what to ask or who to trust. It’s all just too much.”
I’ve started Care Champions with people like this police officer in mind. He and many others just like him, have inspired me to start a business that helps to minimize the level of stress they are facing when navigating the complexities of finding care for a loved one. ”
